There are four interwoven themes in Leon Burnette's life that have granted him a vast wealth of knowledge and experience: sociocultural rights, civil and political rights, Black music history, and mentorship. All four themes are underpinned by the love of travel. As a result of Leon’s passion for equity and the inclusion of diverse voices in the music and media industry, the Media Arts Institute of Alabama was born in 2005, and this year, the Tourism Pathways Project was launched.
