Reducing the environmental impact of our business isn’t just a “nice-to-have” for us, it’s at the core of all that we do. In 2020 we launched our 5-year sustainability strategy entitled How We Tread Right, which addresses the impact of our business on our planet, its people, and wildlife, through 11 measurable goals tied to the United Nations Global Goals. A major part of these efforts revolves around our carbon footprint of The Travel Corporation family of brands, and in 2022, TTC committed to achieving net zero by 2050.

In 2022, TTC became the first global tour operator with validated near-term, long-term, and net zero targets by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi). To support TTC’s Climate Action Plan and journey to net zero, we’ve shifted TreadRight’s focus to prioritizing nature-based solutions that protect biodiversity and restore the planet.

Nature-based solutions are initiatives which work for and with nature to address issues facing the environment, society and, ultimately, biodiversity. They include the conservation and restoration of natural spaces, and improved land management to either reduce carbon emissions or to store carbon in the planet. Nature based solutions involve local communities to reduce vulnerability of local communities to the adverse effects of climate change.

In April 2023, Trees For Life’s Wild Pine initiative in Scotland became TreadRight’s third nature-based solution partner, in addition to US-based GreenWave and Project Vesta, both marine-based carbon removal solutions, and we look forward to adding more of these incredible partnerships to the list.
